Greetings writers, readers, artists, and fellow creators. My name is Dominique Weldon, and welcome to what will hopefully be a long-lasting project where I discuss my personal writing journey, books I’m currently reading, and tools that will inspire creativity within both you and me.
Before I continue, I want to share a few details about myself. I’m a writer who mostly focuses on fiction; although, I do have an interest in flash, non-fiction, and graphic novels as well. I’ve wanted to become a full-time writer since I was a child and thus studied creative writing in college. While attending both undergraduate and graduate school, I considered myself a slice-of-life writer who focused on the difficulties of everyday life. However, as time has gone on and through the help of my writing group, I’ve discovered that my work has a darker tone, and I’m currently learning to embrace that.
Like many writers, I am aiming for publication and writing full-time for a living. I’m currently an adjunct instructor at a university, which is a position that pays pitifully, but that’s a story for another day. However, I will say that my job takes up a substantial amount of time, as most day jobs do. Therefore, I struggle to write, due to the little time and energy my job leaves me. Currently, the only resolution I have to this problem is to quit my teaching position and reside in the woods behind my apartment complex, where I’d live off the land and pursue my writerly dreams. However, that is sadly not a sustainable plan, which is why I am looking for better solutions, and while doing so, I will try to connect with as many fellow creatives as possible since they are some of my favorite people. The first step I will take in this journey is to start with blogging since I enjoyed running a blog in the past.
Through this blog, I plan to discuss several topics here, including creative writing and literature. Thankfully, there is a never-ending number of books on my TBR list, which I would love to discuss here. Additionally, I am interested in discovering and sharing writing opportunities as well, including conferences, fellowships, and residencies. After all, the only way for us to discover these opportunities is for others to share them.
In the end, I hope you will stick around and join in these discussions with me. I plan on posting at least once a week and hopefully will do so even more in the future. I look forward to meeting you all.
